Donate and Recycle in Columbus or Charlotte– Help the Earth While Helping Others When You Give to NKS

Donate Recycle Charlotte & ColumbusWhile you may not think of “donate” and “recycle” as two words that go hand in hand, National Kidney Services (NKS) is here to tell you that giving to charity actually can have a positive impact on the Earth. By donating used clothes and household items that you no longer want instead of throwing them in the trash, you’re reducing the amount of waste you produce, which helps keep local landfills clear.

Did you know that the average American throws away approximately four and a half pounds of garbage each day? While this may not sound like much at first, the final numbers are staggering – the United States alone produces nearly half of the world’s total trash. It’s estimated that 15 percent of this trash is made up of durable, reusable goods that could be given a second life if people donate and recycle them instead of tossing them in the junk pile.

Below are some tips for finding reusable items to donate and recycle:

  • Ask everyone in your family to look through their closets and gather the clothes they haven’t worn in the past year.
  • The next time you replace a DVD player or other electronic device with a newer model, donate the old one.
  • Take stock of the items you have in your kitchen cabinets, such as utensils, cookware, and tableware. If you’ve got doubles of anything, consider donating the extra item.
